SUVs have changed more in the past 15 years than any other segment of vehicles. The 2007 Ford Escape is Ford's smallest SUV, available in gasoline and gas/electric hybrid models. The Ford Escape is America's best-selling compact sport-utility. The Escape seats five-passengers, and comes in five trims, XLS, XLT, XLT V6, XLT Sport, and Limited versions. XLS and XLT 4-cyl models have 2.3-liter153 hp engine, XLT V6, XLT Sport, and Limited versions have a 3.0-liter 200-hp V6.
The 4-cyl engine is available with manual or automatic transmission; the V6 gets an automatic only. The Ford Escape Hybrid is one of the cleanest, most fuel-efficient vehicles in its class and is very similar to a regular Escape. Hybrid models have a 4-cyl gas engine with a battery-powered electric motor that makes 155 hp. The hybrid system runs on one or both power sources; and requires no plug-in charging.
The Escape features a well arranged dash, clearly visible gauges, and easily accessible controls. Seating is well bolstered and comfortable. All Ford Escape versions are available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. ABS are standard, curtain side airbags with rollover deployment are optional. The 4-dr wagon also gets a liftgate with opening glass.
