The Mustang debuted in 1964 and had a place of pride in the James Bond movie “Goldfinger”. The Shelby GT350 debuted soon after. The high-performance Boss 302 and Boss 429 were introduced in 1969. The beginning of the 70s saw the entry of the biggest Mustang which was a foot longer and 600 pounds heavier than the original model. In the mid 1970s, models like the Mustang II and the Cobra II joined the lineup.
Moving away from conventional styling, the Euro-styled “Fox” platform was introduced in 1979 for the brand. The early 1980s saw the return of the Mustang GT and Convertible after a break. In 1994 the Mustang was restyled to evoke the original, classic design and in 1999, was further redesigned and given a fresh look.
In 2004, the Dearborn Assembly Plant put an end to 40 years of Mustang production as the assembly was transferred to AAI plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. The 9 millionth Mustang, a GT convertible, was sold in 2008. In 2009, glass roof option was offered with the 2010 Mustang and the Mustang’s 45th anniversary was also celebrated.
