2008 Ford Mustang: First-Ever Convertible with 5-Star Crash Rating

The 2008 Ford Mustang became the first convertible to ever receive a five-star safety rating in all NHTSA and NCAP tests. The best-selling convertible stands alone in its class as a true 5-Star safety rated vehicle.

The 2008 Ford Mustang Convertible received the highest rating in the following test categories:
  • Frontal crash evaluations for both driver and front-seat passenger
  • Side impact evaluations for both driver and rear-seat passenger directly behind the driver
  • NHTSAs rollover test - a two-tiered evaluation used to gauge a vehicle's resistance to rollover

It also received the following by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS):

  • Highest side-impact performance rating

The Ford Mustang is Americas best-selling convertible and one of the greatest automotive sales success stories. It will continue to stay on top of sales with exciting new features that include High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps, 18-inch wheels on the V-6 coupe, and an interior ambient lighting system. For the 2008 Mustang, standard side air bags have been added to an already comprehensive safety package that includes a Personal Safety System designed to respond to the severity of a crash and other factors.
